** Issues of interactivity **
         in OSMOSE

an immersive VR installation commissioned
  by Softimage/Microsoft.

Rick Bidlack currently lives in Seattle with his fiancee and two cats.
His works for solo instruments and ensembles, with and without
electronics, have been heard in Europe, Japan and South America as
well as the US and Canada. He also works actively with other media,
having scored several short films, served as sound designer for
several theatrical productions, and constructed the interactive
soundtracks of several immersive virtual reality installations. He is
an active member of the International Computer Music Association, and
is the violist and founder of the OK Quartet, which performs in
Seattle. He is currently employed as a software engineer at Midisoft
Corporation.

OSMOSE was a Virtual Reality project Rick was involved in Montreal,
1995, with Char Davies. Rick did the composing, taking cues off of the
SGI Onyx into a Macintosh running MAX which in turned controlled a
stack of syths, a Mackie Otto mixer, and a sound spacialization
unit. His presentation was a talk about the project as a whole, the
music technology setup, and a 20 minute video run through of the
world(s).

About Northwest CyberArts
------------------------------------

Northwest CyberArts (NWCA) was established in 1992 to bring together
artists and technologists to collaborate in the creation of innovative
works of art and entertainment, exploring the dynamic boundaries
between artistry and engineering. The group's participants share
resources, knowledge and ideas. Projects undertaken as a result of
this collective input have contributed to the Northwest's growing
reputation as one of the world's foremost centers of arts and
technology experimentation.

NWCA has been active in producing both public events and private
projects. It's activities have been publicized on MTV-Europe and in
Business Week, MIX Magazine, Men's Journal, the Seattle Times, the
Seattle PI, Pro Sound News, The HITLab Review and KUOW Radio.

Wander our Web space to learn about our past projects, future
directions, and member activities: http://nwlink.com/cyberartists/

Northwest CyberArts meetings (such as that announced in this message)
are open to the public and free of charge.

Voluntary membership is $15 per year.
