Hello, everybody!

I am the session chairman for the Human-Machine Interfaces session at
the Robotics and Remote Systems Topical Meeting of the American
Nuclear Society. The conference is next April 27-May 1, in Augusta,
Georgia.

For this session, I am interested in papers relating to human-machine
interfaces for robotic systems. Robots or telerobots deployed in
hostile environments is the main theme for the topical meeting, but I
am interested in any work related to human-machine interfaces for
advanced robotics, whatever the application. Human-machine
investigations in virtual reality may also be acceptable.

Other Topical Meeting Areas include:

       Controls & System Architectures
       Artificial Intelligence & Smart Systems
       Virtual Reality for Telepresence
       Remote Viewing & Telepresence
       Sensors & Machine Vision
       Manipulator R&D - Hardware
       Manipulator R&D - Software
       Manipulators & Telerobots
       Radiation Hardening
       End Effectors & Special Tooling
       In-Service Inspection Robotics
       Nuclear Power Plant Applications
       Medical Applications
       Space Systems
       Underwater Systems
       Military Systems
       Emergency Response & Bomb Disposal
       Systems for Hazardous Environments
       Hazardous Materials Processing
       Autonomous Systems & Mobile Robots
Remote Handling for Environmental Restoration & Waste Management
Remote Handling for Underground Storage Tanks
Morgantown Energy Technology Center Robotics Development Program

Abstracts are due by July 1, 1996. Notification of acceptance, request
for modification or rejection will be sent out by July 21, 1996.

Authors are asked to submit one page abstracts, typed in English,
single spaced, and on one side of the page only. Abstracts should have
sufficient detail to allow the technical merit of the paper to be
identified. Attach abstract submittal form (below) to your
abstract. Abstracts can be faxed with the abstract submittal form to
Clyde Ward at (803) 725-7369 or mailed to him at the address on the
submittal form. You may also e-mail abstracts to me at
draperjv@ornl.gov, and I will forward them to Clyde. Should you
e-mail, be sure to include a completed version of the form below.

The American Nuclear Society will send the complete instructions on
paper submittal shortly after acceptance. Complete camera ready papers
will be due by December 2, 1996. Complete papers on diskette (DOS or
Macintosh) will also be requested for the CD ROM version of the
proceedings. Pictures can either be included within the document on
diskette, or can be provided by hardcopy (to be scanned). Eight pages
will be published at no charge (with paid registration), but there
will be a $100 charge for each additional page.
