I wasn't under the impression that nobody had thought about this,
but I was under the impression that not everyone in comp.lang.java,
rec.games.mud.misc, and sci.virtual-worlds had thought about it. :) But
now that the topic is on the floor...

About two years ago, a friend of mine at Bell Northern Research and
I came up with a plan for a multi-user game with object oriented
extensions. We figured that what we wanted was the game to be
entirely made of objects, using multithreading (most modern OS's have
multithreading built in) for the various sentient objects. We also
wanted it interpreted (I was working on a bytecode interpreted
language (from C) so naturally I liked the idea) so that only the game
would have to be ported to run the objects. That idea went on the
back burner (We were/are just way too busy) until two weeks ago I
remembered it and realised that we just wanted Java :). I'm still not
actively working on it, but I am thinking about it. I'm doing another
small game right now. I do plan to persue this eventually, and anyone
who wishes to work with me (esp. if you can supply internet space,
since projects like these are not small), please contact me. Email is
best: j2lynn@calum.uwaterloo.ca.

Java itself is perfectly ready. Moreso than most languages. The
SDK doesn't come with a MUD class, but that doesn't mean Java is not
ready.

It's called competition. Money can be had from this.
