At VRAIS '96 I saw a neat tracker from a company called Angularis in
Boston. It's a wireless 6 DOF tracker with a 20' range, or so, but by
this summer they plan to have much larger ranges. It uses a
combination of gyros, fluid inclinometers, accelerometers, and
ultrasonic tracking to get rock solid as well as low drift
tracking. Their demo was that elaborate so it was hard to fully
evaluate it, but it seems like it's a very good way to go. Costs about
$11,000.
