I recently sent this to the VRASP Public List and Homebrew-VR list, but
forgot to post it here also. So here it is, a day late...

[Note: Price was corrected from $75 shipped to $85 shipped due to some
problems obtaining the Group Purchase. Sorry that I couldn't keep
it at $75, but $85 is still an excellent price, in my opinion -- and
we'll be able to keep it at $85 for sure now.]

Well, I've had several requests, so I'm considering doing a group
purchase for the people that can't afford the CyberMaxx or i-glasses!
Group Purchases that I've done previously. I've found a lead on getting
a decent price on some of the Chinon CyberShades 3D Shutter-Glasses. The
price would be about $85 shipped-to-your-door and would include the
normal retail package -- which includes some games (see below for more
details on what is included).

Let me know if you are interested -- we need ten people. I'm going to
get a pair myself, just to try them out, even though I'll still stick to
my i-glasses! as my standard HMD! :)

Again, these are shutter-glasses -- so the image is on your monitor, not
in the glasses, but they are at least decent enough so that people that
can't afford the more expensive HMDs can at least have some fun with 3D.

As soon as we get ten people, I'll place the Group Purchase order. Note
that this is probably just a one-time quick thing. It won't be a long or
repeating process like some of the other Group Purchases... In other
words, now or never...

(I'll ship international if I have to, but you have to pay for your extra
shipping costs).

Here is what is included (it's the normal retail box that everyone else
would buy in the store, of course):

(Taken from the box description that was faxed to me:)

 - Parallel interface with 12v power supply
 - Parallel port Y-cable
 - Advanced LCD shutter glasses with 7' cable
 - Game software, including drivers and utilities
 - User's manual

The game software included is:

 - Descent: Destination Saturn
 - Wolfenstein 3D
 - Depth Dwellers
 - Math Rescue
 - Word Rescue
 - and at least one other which was cut-off in the fax -- it looks like it
might be VirtualSlingShot, but I'm not sure...

The games come on a CD-ROM.

System Requirements listed for CyberShades:

 - Windows-compatible IBM PC, 486sx or way higher
 - 4MB RAM minimum (8MB or higher recommended)
 - Color monitor with Super VGA
 - Video card supporting Super VGA
 - CD-ROM drive (for loading games/drivers/utilities)
 - Parallel port (port can be shared with any additional device via
   included Y-cable)

If anyone doesn't have a CD-ROM drive, I would be willing to copy the
main drivers/utilities to disk for you.

Also -- someone mentioned that they might be LCDBIOS compatible --
I checked the LCDBIOS home page...
  http://www-personal.umich.edu/~dsawdai/lcdbios.html
...and it does appear that they are. In fact, it looks like he actually
wrote the LCDBIOS driver that ships with the CyberShades. So, that's cool.

I did an Alta-Vista search, and here are some of the sites with info/pricing
on the CyberShades. The cheapest I saw was the $139 price, so I think we
are getting a decent deal here... Check these sites for more info, although
I think I got most of it in this message:

http://www.computability.com/Hardware/mmadd.html
 - sells them for $179

http://www.mmworld.com/resources/backissues/october95/news/flash.html#cyber
 - mentions them as a Hot New Product

http://www.vrplanet.com/chinon3d.htm
 - gives info about them, price not listed, but I called and they sell
   them for $189

http://www.thevrstore.com/chinon/cyber.html
 - gives info and sells them for $139.99

http://www.trucost.com/bd10.html
 - sells them for $174

And that's all the pricing I could find on the Net -- so it looks good to
me so far. If anyone sees a price lower than $85 including shipping,
please let me know and I'll cancel the Group Purchase and just by my own
pair from there too! I haven't seen anything near the $85 though, so I
think this is the best we'll find for now...

That's all I have -- I'll be placing the order for ten units soon -- just
let me know if you want in on the Group Purchase.
