Geb,

Have you ever consider using external resources ? I can't stop
thinking about a current service bureau for the European Space
Agency. They developped some really nice simulations on SGI
(performer) for the real-time visualization of a satellite
launch. Plus, they developped something truely amazing which was shown
at the Paris Air Show in 1995: the VRover. An HMD was linked with a
Camera on a robot. So that the operator could act like he was in fact
sitting in the robot to drive it. Ath the same time, there was some
real time terrain data acquisition performed. So the user either had
the choice of visualizing 'as-is' or 'digitally mapped'.

Let me know if you want their fax number in Paris. Last time I met
with them they were seeking contacts in the states. The name of the
company is "Silicon Worlds."
