Hi,

sorry, I missed the original posting, but I want you to
know that there are indeed some good articles on
Coginition in VR.

For a introduction in this field you might want to look at

Carr, K. (ed.)(1995). Simulated and virtual realities:
Elements of perception. London: Taylor & Francis.

and

Biocca, F., & Levy, M. R. (Eds.)(1995). Communication in
the age of virtual reality. Hillsdale: Lawrence Erlbaum.

In the last months, we worked on the sense of presence in
virtual environments and its relations to fear of heights,
and we found the following articles very useful:

Prothero, J.D., Parker, D.E., Furness III, T.A., & Wells,
M.J. (1995?). Towards a Robust, Quantitative Measure for
Presence. Human Interface Technology Laboratory,
University of Washington, Seattle.

Regan, E.C. & Price, K.R. (1994). The frequency of
occurrence and severity of side-effects of immersion
virtual
reality. Aviation, Space, and Environmental Medicine. Vol
65 (6). S. 527-530.

Slater, M., Lineakis, V., Usoh, M., & Kooper, R.
Immersion, Presence, and Performance in Virtual
Environments:
An Experiment using Tri-Dimensional Chess.
http://www.dcs.qmw.ac.uk/~bigfoot/vrpubs.html

Slater, M., Usoh, M., & Steed, A. (1995). Taking Steps:
The Influence of a Walking Technique on Presence in
Virtual Reality. Department of Computer Science and London
Parallel Applications Centre, Queen Mary and
Westfield College, University of London.

Especially the last two articles are based on work done by
J. J. Gibson, so you might want to look at his book for a
detailed analysis of human perception.

Gibson, J.J. (1979) The ecological approach to visual
perception. Boston: Houghton Mifflin.

Let me know if you want further information.
