Each pixel of an active matrix liquid crystal display (LCD) is
surrounded by a black border. When magnified, and in a head-mounted
display (HMD), these borders make the image look like an array of
separate dots instead of a uniform picture.

Depixelization spreads out the light from each pixel to cover the black
borders. There are many ways to do this. The easiest is to blur the
image.

The trick is to depixelate without losing resolution.
