Fraunhofer TradeNet Selected To Be G7 Pilot Project

(Providence, Rhode Island) The Fraunhofer Center for Research in
Computer Graphics (CRCG), Providence, Rhode Island, and its partners,
the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research (IGD),
Darmstadt, Germany, and the Rover Group have been designated to host
an official international electronic commerce testbed, TradeNet, at
the first meeting of the G7 Global Marketplace for Small and Medium
Enterprises (SMEs) held in Bonn, Germany.

The Fraunhofer Center for Research in Computer Graphics (CRCG) and its
partners have developed the Transatlantic Development Environment
Network (TradeNet). The objective of TradeNet is to develop and build
advanced, affordable collaborative environments for a "Global Market
Place". The intent is to enable companies to better synchronize their
operations and compete across the world.

Fraunhofer CRCG is capitalizing on its proven expertise in computer
graphics, digital security, virtual reality, and networking research to
develop applications for use in this global marketplace. Fraunhofer CRCG
and IGD have successfully demonstrated virtual conferencing and
telemedical distributed environments in which participants can collaborate
and interact with live voice, video, text, modeling, and imagery. During
the G7 meeting in Bonn, delegates were able to participate in a virtual
conferencing environment that included Providence, Bonn, and Darmstadt.
As a result, TradeNet was selected by the delegates to be officially
designated as an international testbed pilot project for the development
of electronic commerce.

The Group of Seven Nations (G7) operates as a powerful gathering of the
leaders of the seven major economic powers (United States, United Kingdom,
France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan). G7 initiatives address the
fundamental issues of the global information economy. A key working group
is the Global Marketplace for Small and Medium Enterprises which is
developing underlying policy recommendations for facilitation of
electronic commerce. The European Commission, United States, and Japan are
the coordinators of this project.
