Announcement

New Media Marketplace presents
Symposium 'Demystifying Virtual Reality'
September 25th, 1997 at the Office Of The Future in s-Hertogenbosch,
The Netherlands

s Hertogenbosch, August 1997

Virtual Reality still sounds to much like the magic word computer
wizards use to build and manipulate artificial worlds with. Too often
this medium is associated with the illusions in computer games or 3D
animations depicted in movies. A representation from which insiders say
that it is too limited.
The symposium, scheduled for September 25th, will try to unravel the
mysticism surrounding Virtual Reality to give it a place in todays
reality!

Lectures will be held by VR experts who have contributed to creating a
solid ground for the current possibilities of this medium. Using
practical examples, an image of the possible value of VR in different
lines of work will be drawn. It will become clear that VR is not only
being used as an instrument for presentations but that it also has
different ranges of use such as a Research & Development tool. Thus,
fictitious worlds can be created displaying the effects of new systems
in a more insightful way. Complex data can be visualized and be made
interactive in a way that decisions can be made on-virtual-sight.=20

The following items will be discussed:
What is the current situation of VR?
What are the common fields of application?
What kind of knowledge is needed for building a VR system?
 What are the technical implications?
 What are the benefits?
 What are the costs?

This symposium is intended for a broadly oriented audience. Such as
designers, developers, decision makers, and project managers originating
from different lines of business and professions. Furthermore:
interested people who want to stay in touch with the history, present
and future of VR.
