Recently I began experimenting with a "3D Studio MAX to Quake"
map converter (qmapexp.exe). I found it at 3D Cafe and
am wondering.....if this works, why bother with VRML at all? iD is
sitting on something awsome, beyond the gaming industry. I wonder
what the hurtles would be in making their 3D engine into a HTML
browser plugin though? You know, if they could pull it off, they
could be the ones to FINALLY standardize VR.

I'm experimenting by building shopping malls, chat chambers, libraries,
etc. As long as I follow the polygonal restrictions of the environment,
it works great.

Has anyone tried doing this?
Comments?
