This comes up here about once a month. The place to check is the VRML
Repository: http://www.sdsc.edu/vrml/worlds.html where you'll see VRML
used for architecture, art, astronomy (those are only the A's, and you
can click the URL as easily as I can list what's there).

A number (I venture to say a *large* number) of companies are
using VRML on their Intranets for the visualization of data
generated by proprietary simulation models, fly-throughs of
CAD models, etc. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out
that VRML is being put to work more on Intranets than on the
Internet, and on the Internet it's exploding. Check my
VRML page at http://hiwaay.net/~crispen/vrml/ and click
"Worlds".
