General Reality Company Introduces Low-Cost Wide Field-of-View
Head-Mounted Display

CyberEye=99 CE-200W Provides First Wide Field-of-View, Arcade-Hardened,
Eyeglasses-Compatible Head-Mounted Display Below $2500=20

April 2, 1997 San Jose, CA: General Reality Company today introduced its
new CyberEye CE-200W head-mounted display, featuring wide field-of-view
in an arcade-hardened design. The CyberEye CE-200W is the lowest-priced
HMD available that provides wide field-of-view without sacrificing
eyeglasses compatibility.

The CE-200W provides a 45 degree horizontal field-of-view driven by
high-resolution 181,000 pixel active-matrix LCDs for each eye. By using
glass optics instead of the molded plastic optics used in other low-cost
HMDs, the new CyberEye model achieves wide field-of-view while retaining
a 3/4" eye relief, sufficient for nearly all eyeglasses. Glass optics
also provides the CE-200W with superior visual performance and image
quality, as measured by optical distortion and aberations. By mounting
the optics within a special three-layer protective housing, the CE-200W
provides an outstanding display solution for demanding public virtual
reality applications such as arcade gaming, immersive training, and
virtual prototyping.

The new CyberEye CE-200W includes numerous other improvements, including
direct VGA input supporting multiple stereoscopic formats, the same
oversized 3D-ready headphone drivers used on leading HMDs at four times
the price, and an integrated CyberTrack-II game tracker as standard
equipment. The CyberTrack-II includes software which allows players to
turn their head to look around within a variety of popular games such as
Rise of the Triad=99, Witchhaven=99, and Doom=AE. To facilitate high
throughput in public applications, all controls are hidden except a
single interpupillary distance adjuster and top/rear headband ratchets.

According to Arthur Zwern, president of General Reality Company, "our
new CE-200W provides clearly superior overall performance compared to
reasonably priced alternatives. In a very rugged package, it combines
the immersion provided by wide field-of-view with the convenience of
keeping your eyeglasses on, plus image quality normally found only in
much higher-priced HMDs".

The new CyberEye CE-200W is now shipping, at a list price of $2,495,
with significant volume discounts available. For additional information,
