Shumin Zhai at the University of Toronto has been heavily involved in controller devices for several years; I know he has a taxonomy for the controllers, but I don't know if he or David Drascic have any work specifically on measures of 'presence'. Their lab is http://vered.rose.utoronto.ca/ where you will also find a large collection of their research material. Metrics of presence is a good question; I don't recall any such talk by Bill Buxton or Ron Reisenbach, but that is not to say they hadn't done work on this or if they know of any.
