Augmented Reality Research
==========================

Applications are invited for graduate study in Augmented Reality at
Memorial University of Newfoundland. In a collaborative program
between the Multimedia Communications Laboratory in the Faculty of
Engineering and the Interaction Laboratory in the Department of
Computer Science, we are investigating the use of AR in several
applications. These include:

.	Radar image overlay for search and rescue lookouts
.	Expert guidance of engineroom workers on board ship
.	Specialist guidance of a secondary care provider in telemedicine
.	Teletraining of technicians in mechanical engineerin applications
.	Virtual guidance for tourism, recreation, and tele-exploration.

The fundamental research questions to be addressed include

.	Wearable computer design
.	Overlay image registration
.	Stereo video compression

This research is part of an expanding program in Telecommunications and
Information Engineering at Memorial.

Financial support of $15,500 per annum will be available for two or three
suitably qualified students.

Students recently completing undergraduate study in Electrical
Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science, with a strong
academic record and demonstrated excellence in project work are
invited to apply. Strong software skills, creativity and enthusiasm
are essential. A request for an admissions package may be directed
toward the Associate Dean of either the Faculty of Engineering and
Applied Science, or the Faculty of Science. However, in the first
instance, please feel free to contact one of the principal
investigators for more information.
