Hello everybody,

Today it's the first time that I discovered this great newsgroup that
seems to be the right place for a question that I have:

Is anybody of you guys aware of work that has be done on the field of
substitution of force feedback in VR?

As a part of my thesis I am planning to develop optical and acoustical
methods that can substitute or support force feedback in virtual
environments. This aims on applications where state-of-the-art haptic
displays are too expensive, bulky or limited in a way that makes
additional feedback mechanisms desirable (and hopefully useful).

Related studies - like a psycological survey on feelings and images
associated with the impact of forces on our sensory inputs - would also
be of great help.

Please contact me, if you have any hints in this matter. Your help is
greatly appreciated!

Nikolas
