OPERATE A ROBOT OVER THE INTERNET
USING A VRML VIRTUAL REALITY INTERFACE

http://www.op.dlr.de/FF-DR-RS/VRML/Rotex/index.html

To teleoperate robots over the World Wide Web is a current dream of
many robotics engineers. Fundamental new challanges now arise with
VRML 2.0 becoming a standard for virtual realty over the web. As a
key feature for doing telerobotics VRML scenes are able to
communicate with other hosts on the web to exchange data and react
on external events.

The VRML Telerobotics Client is a VRML 2.0 client which allows you
to remotely operate a simulated or real Manutec robot in our lab.
If you enter the world it tries to establish a connection to the
DLR Telerobotics Server in our lab. The world you will see is the
original ROTEX workcell as flown aboard space-shuttle Columbia
(Flight STS-55) during the D2 mission in April '93 with some minor
additions.

To view the scene you need a Java-enabled WWW browser and a VRML
plugin (preferable Cosmoplayer).

Any feedback will be highly appreciated. See you at
