I have been working on a mobile command and control system and
carefully watching the various mobile comm systems. None of them seem
to have a decent bandwidth for medium or high volume applications. If
you can run a VR system on 28.8 or slower modems you might get away
with some of the the mobile systems. There is some interesting work
being done on HAM packet radio getting over 56K rates.

An appropriate app for mobile would be telepresence. There is a bunch
of work being done in this area for robotic control, especially in the
mine detection/clearing world.
