Have you looked at the 3dfx site?
   http://www.3dfx.com/developer/development/index.html
lists Sense 8 WTK (a full VR package) and DirectX, Renderware, Brender as
rendering APIs.

Also check out the stuff from Quantum 3d:
   http://www.quantum3d.com
and their links page
   http://www.quantum3d.com/links.html
which lists a whole lot of companies using or supporting Quantum boards at
various levels.

I like the 100SB boards ( which you can supposively now get at CompUSA!)
for high end graphics. (see
http://www.gamespot.com/ugm.nsf/reviews/ob100sb/index.html for a review)
It is basically two 3dfx boards combined to make a single image (scan line
interleave). We used the older version of these (the 3dfx SLI boards) for
the Sahara Speedworld Indy car simulators in Las Vegas. The 100SB boards
start around $795.
