The first issue will appear in the last quarter of 1994, followed by four further issues in subsequent years. The VR Society is currently co-ordinating the creation of the editorial board whose members will consist of eminent international academics, researchers and industrialists. To maintain the highest possible editorial standards, the Journal will only publish papers accepted and refereed by the editorial board. Areas to be covered by the Journal include: * Working in real-time environments * Simulating physical systems * Leisure and entertainment * Prototyping and manufacture * Hardware platforms, I/O devices, technology and parallel architectures * Software systems and architectures * Physiological problems, human issues of VR environments * Interactive systems, sensors, force feedback, interaction and navigation * Modelling VR Systems * Distributed VR Systems * Motion tracking * Telepresence and telerobotics * Spatial audio * Applications involving innovative uses of VR * User issues and human factors * Evaluation and benchmarking of VR techniques and systems * Philosophical and ethical issues * Education and training issues Submissions for the first issue of the Journal should be sent by 30th June 1994 to: The Editor in Chief The Virtual Reality Society PO Box 316 Haywards Heath West Sussex, RH17 5YA U.K. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Instructions to authors Originality and copyright Only original papers will be accepted, and copyright in published papers will be vested in the publisher. Successful authors will be sent a Publishing Agreement which will release transfer of the copyright. It is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission to quote material which has previously been published. Language All manuscripts must be written in standard grammatical English. Title Page The manuscript's first page must contain: the title, the complete name(s) of the author(s), and the name and full address of the laboratory or institution where the work was performed. Abstract Following the title, an abstract must be included that summarises the paper's content. The abstract should be approximately 100 words, and enable readers to discover the overall theme of the paper. Key words Authors should supply not more than six key words following the abstract. Introduction The introduction should be concise and define the scope of the work in relation to similar work previously published. Footnotes Footnotes should be numbered consecutively and placed at the bottom of the current page. References All references cited in the text are to be listed at the end of the paper in alphabetic sequence under the first authors name. If there is more than one reference by the same author, then a chronological sequence is employed. The addition of the letters a, b, c, etc. can be included to distinguish one reference from another. A citation should be included as follows: Ivan Sutherland (1965) A reference will take the form: Sutherland I.E. (1965). "The Ultimate Display". In Proceedings of the 1965 IFIP Congress, 2, 506-508 Mandelbrot B. (1977). Fractals, Form, Chance and Dimension. San Francisco: W.H. Freeman and Co. Illustrations Illustrations should only be included when it is necessary to clarify the text. Each figure should be accompanied by a figure number and a caption. Halftone illustrations must be of suitable quality to retain their clarity when printed in the Journal. Offprints Twenty offprints of each paper and one copy of the journal issue in which it appears will be provided free of charge. Additional offprints may be bought from the publisher. Medium Manuscripts should be submitted on a 3.5" computer disk, preferably in MS-DOS WORD for WINDOWS format. Other formats are acceptable. Editorial processing will be faster if hard copy manuscripts are submitted in quadruplicate. Author's biography Authors should submit a short biography of between 50 to 100 words and supply a black and white glossy photograph, approximately 2"x2".
