Toni,

     Would appreciate the below post.
I regret not meeting you at VRWorld '95 - for me, it was like a
video on fast-forward.
     Next time.

INDUSTRY BUZZ

Seriously hospitalized kids will soon be experiencing the ecstatically
liberating powers of virtual reality, thanks to a new networked virtual
world created by movie director Stephen Spielberg. Showcased June 5
in Los Angeles at the Digital World trade show, Starbright World will link
seriously ill kids from their hospital beds across the country via a
telecommunications network put together by Worlds Inc., Intel
Corporation, Sprint, and UB Networks.

Spielberg himself was on hand to introduce trade showgoers to the potential
of Starbright, which offers world's as diverse as the bright and riotous
"tropical world," to the soothing and nurturing "cave world." Spielberg -
who appeared in avatar form as ET - chose "cave world" to interact
virtually with patients at the Lucille Salter Packard Children's Hospital,
based in Palo Alto, California.

While not yet fully immersive, Starbright's 3D environment represents the
first step towards a national, and eventually international network of
hospitals that will be linked in virtual reality, according to health care
facilities participating in the project.
