Medical VR project at National Cancer Center Japan is one of the
Japanese high performance medical supercomputing project
support by .MINISTRY of HEALTH and WELFARE.
The purpose of our system is for the restration of cancer by
the prevention, research, diagnosis support and treatment simulation
with high performance supercomputing.
The outline of our system see below.
Hardware:
(1)Supercompuer for Visualization: SPN (IBM mpp)with parallel AVS.
(2)Supercompuer for high performance data management: SPN (IBM mpp)with
     parallel Oracle DB.
(3)Supercompuer for gene-analysis:DEC mpp
(4)Scientific caliculation server:
(5)Image file server:
(6)Medical Data processing server:
(7)Diagnosis support processing server:
(8)Virtual Reality WS:Onyx SGI WS x 2 and accessories
      and IBM VR-Deck system.
(9)Infrastructure:high performance network.

Software is developing now.
Its contents see below.
(1)AI diagnostic support system (neuro and CBR)
(2)High performance medical research image processing
(3)Simulating madical image processing
(4)VR and telemedicine development
(5)Gene and molecular high performance analysis
(6)General Information System for cancer prevention and public education.

The purpose of the present Medical VR project is "surgical simulation of
brain tumor
and virtual organ vizualization" for education.
We intend to develop the prototype of surgical simulation for education and
preoperative evaluation within this year.
