**************************************************************** Research in the Concurrent Virtual Design Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin - Madison involves developing innovative methodologies for computer-aided intelligent design and research. Issues being researched involve : - Developing a set of high level features to allow a designer to design within a virtual environment. - Developing new means of interaction between the user and the virtual environment that are particularly useful in Computer-based Mechanical Design. - Providing on-line feedback to the designer on downstream manufacturing issues using object-oriented knowledge-based systems. Smart user interfaces are being developed to handle such feedback. - Developing efficient modes of physical interaction between the user's hands and the geometric forms in the environment. - Developing a concurrent design environment where several users can interact with each other in addition to interacting with the design within the virtual environment.
