      PhD Studentship in Collaborative Virtual Environments for
		   Distributed Software Engineering

		     School of Computing Sciences
		  De Montfort University, Leicester


Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD research studentship tenable
at the Department of Computer Science, De Montfort University,
Leicester.

Applicants should hold a first or upper-second class honours degree,
MSc or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related
discipline, and must have 2 years' practical experience of OO
analysis, design and software development, along with knowledge of at
least one OOPL, preferably Smalltalk or SELF.  Experience with UNIX
software development and MOO would be beneficial, as would knowledge
of Distributed Object Technology (eg. CORBA).

The successful candidate will work on a joint project with British
Telecom developing a collaborative virtual environment to support
distributed software engineering.  Work will be undertaken at De
Montfort University's Leicester campus, although the candidate will be
expected to spend at least 3 months in total at BT's research labs in
Martlesham.

The position is funded by an EPSRC Industrial CASE Award, and
remuneration will be according to standard EPSRC maintenance grant
rates, supplemented by a contribution from BT.
