 The goals of the Virtual Reality and Education Laboratory are to
identify suitable applications of virtual reality in education,
evaluate virtual reality software and hardware for possible use
in an educational setting, examine the impact of virtual reality
on education, and disseminate this information as broadly as possible.
Members of the VREL staff work with faculty, students, and educators,
helping them explore ways to use virtual reality as an integral part
of education. Staff present programs on the use of virtual reality
in the classroom at conferences, and a graduate level class  on
virtual reality is offered.  An undergraduate-graduate level class
is being developed.
  Some specific current projects:
      North Carolina Competency-Based Curriculum Objectives and
      Virtual Reality:  Identifying, for grades kindergarten
      through twelve, objectives which can use virtual reality
      as a measure. A report on some objectives identified so far
      is available from VREL.

      Virtual Reality Software Identification and Evaluation:
      Identifying appropriate virtual reality software for use
      in grades kindergarten through twelve.

      Virtual Reality Equipment Identification and Evaluation:
      Identifying appropriate virtual reality equipment for use
      in grades kindergarten through twelve.

      Virtual Reality Equipment and Software Demonstration:
      Assembling and making available a variety of virtual reality
      equipment and software, suitable for grades kindergarten
      through twelve.

      Virtual Reality and Education Information Resources:
      A bibliography and listing of printed and nonprinted virtual
      reality materials relevant to the kindergarten through
      grade twelve educator.  Latest edition is available from
      the following ftp site: u.washington.edu

      Virtual Reality and Education Clearinghouse
      A gathering place for print and nonprint materials.
      A number of handouts produced by VREL staff are
