Subject: | [ARFORUM] stereo output from cards | ||
I am looking for a stereo graphics card that I can buy and install myself. I have used wildcat 4110 in the past && been happy with it, but you have to buy the box from Dell/... I have also bought and installed a GX (?) Oxygen card before. What I am looking for is a recommendation for a graphics card, single stereo output (in other words, a single-head not dual-head), on either frame- or field- sequential VGA format Around $1K. PCI bus. Win98 is best (for this project; i have a box for it). I am not sure how I am going to drive the card, but OpenGL is prob the best. I am not against the Oxygen card, but looking for the experience of others. This is for an AR application/proof of concept. I will drive a stereo HMD, hopefully the io-displays VGA new HMD. My worst case is getting a VGA->NTSC converter to an io-displays HMD that I already have. But ... that is still crappy output. Thanks ... bandit ==^================================================================ EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://topica.com/u/?a84Ao5.a9zIQj Or send an email To: arforum-unsubscribe@t ......... We've been using FireGL2 (AGP) mostly, but have used a few GeForce2 PCI cards also. We're doing frame sequential driving the Stereo version of the Glasstron @ 800x600. The GeForce have quite a bit of power for the money, and are easy to come by in PCI form. The FireGL2 (once we found stable drivers for Win2K) far outperforms the GeForce, but I believe it is only available in AGP. The general consesnus so far is GeForce or FireGL. I looked at the link below for the GeForce - a lot of power for a minimal price!! The spec sheet was not clear that it had dual-output. (actually, the link has a typo: the NV30 has dual output; the NV38 does not :^) I have these questions (simpleminded as they are): 1. what hardware on the market exists to take 2 VGA inputs and generate frame- or field-sequential outout? 2. The S-Video output (since I have an i-glasses) would work, but do I then need to explicitly (and quickly enough) handle the stereo myself with the GeForce? ... actually, if I understand the world correctly, it doesnt matter if I use VGA or S-Video, I would still need to handle the stereo out aspect myself, explicitly, and hope I can always satisfy the timing requirements to feed the card so it generates a stereo output. (The spec sheets say nothing about stereo capabilities) I looked at the FireGL info - it does not support Win98. It has the same issue with the stereo output. I also went to www.3dlabs.com - they are selling the Wildcat 5000 directly to the public They also have demo boards selling as refurbished for good prices. Thanks .. bandit PS: I got a couple of replies directly. I dont know if this is because folks feel this is not appropriate for the group (appologies if that is correct) or if the reply mechanism is still flakey. .... bandit Mark Billinghurst wrote: Hi Bandit, Might I suggest getting one of those GeForce2 MX cards that have dual monitor output. hi, i can recommend the FireGL 4 -which comes out in Oktober. We got one for Siggraph to show our Virtual Showcase demo. For this, we tested the FireGL 3, Wildcat, and also a GeForce III card. However, the FireGL 4 is a little faster than the FireGL 3. But they will be on a similar prize level (i guess). --oliver ==^================================================================ EASY UNSUBSCRIBE click here: http://topica.com/u/?a84Ao5.a9zIQj Or send an email To: arforum-unsubscribe@t .........
