Hello Bob, first do you have the right field of view set for your display? If yes, how did you determine it? thanks Yohan On Wed, 17 Oct 2001, Bob Stone wrote: > My psychology training is failing me here, so can anyone shed some light on > the following, please (also references would be a great help). My psychology training is failing me here, so can anyone shed some light on the following, please (also references would be a great help). We have installed an immersive VR system (based on the Kaiser XL-50 and Is900 trackers) to train 20 and 30mm Royal Navy weapons aimers at HMS Collingwood in the south of England. We're now getting reports that, despite the correct range-scale algorithms having been applied to the 3D targets (which can be anything from a full-blown frigate to a sea-skimming missile), the instructors claim that they appear too small when viewed through the headset. Anu psychophysical explanations to help here (is this what is sometimes referred to as vignetting???). Bob - Have you looked at Stanley Roscoe's research on image magnification in flight simulation with virtual displays (HMDs and HUDs)? Sounds like results he found due mostly to misaccommodation through collimated symbolic imagery. -Scott At 04:44 PM 10/17/2001 +0100, you wrote: >My psychology training is failing me here, so can anyone shed some light on >the following, please (also references would be a great help).
