Subject: | iBOT on Linux | ||
A newbie's question: i am trying and installing an iBOT camera on Linux with the following setup, but the sample program 'simpleTest' finishes with Segmentation Fault and a message: node 1 is not a camera unable to set camera trigger mode (ignored) On the other hand, gscanbus or libraw1394-0.9/src/testlibraw runs successfully. I appreciate any help. Version numbers (esp. libdc1394) of your successful case would be quite helpful. (DragonFly ended with a similar result, but i need further check of what happened.) sincerely yours, Yoshi Fujiwara -------------------- camera: iBOT FireWire Web Cam, ORANGE MICRO Linux kernel: 2.4.19 ARToolkit: 2.64 (http://www.sys.im.hiroshima-cu.ac.jp/people/kato/etc/ARToolKit2.64.tar.gz) libdc1394: 0.8.2 libraw1394: 0.9.0 # lsmod Module Size Used by Tainted: P video1394 12676 0 ohci1394 15936 0 [video1394] raw1394 6960 0 ieee1394 31496 0 [video1394 ohci1394 raw1394] # ls -l /dev/video1394 crw------- 1 yfujiwar root 171, 16 Feb 7 17:48 /dev/video1394 |

Sorry. I have no ideas about that. Could you see any additional information from simpleTest with 'vconf="-debug";'? How did you answer the questions when configuring ARToolKit? Could you see where 'simpleTest' terminates? Here is the information of my PC. i think, i struggled the same fight 3 months ago (after installing a new linux distribution) first i tried to use the recent libdc 0.9.?. this resulted in a compilation error in artoolkit 2.65. i think, the same as you are reporting. but the coriander application worked (but only in raw mode). then i switched to an old libdc (0.8.x). artoolkit compiled. but when i was running bin/simple i've got an error (node number). using the gscanbus application i saw the i-bot camera always trying to be node 0 on the ieee1394 bus. simply reconnecting the camera helps (without unloading the kernel modules). changing the firewire port helps to. there was an other problem: the device numbers of /dev/video1394. i did not see it in the ARToolKitFirewire.txt at first: "Additional comments from Kiyoshi Kiyokawa (kiyo@h ..................) Note that for a newer kernel like 2.4.17, /dev/video1394 device numbers are different. You should go like mknod -m 666 /dev/video1394 c 171 16." i hope this helps. when had the problem i thought, i get nuts ;) christoph Yoshi Fujiwara wrote: > Kato-san wrote: > >>Could you try belows: >>lib/SRC/VideoLinux1394Cam/video.c >>238: vid->channel = vid->node; >>Try No.1) vid->channel = 0; >>Try No.2) vid->channel = -1; > > > Thanks, but both did not work. i will take a look at source codes more > closely to see what is wrong. > > But, with libdc version 0.8.3, the debug messages are as follows. Hi: After some struggle, iBot on Linux worked. Some people helped me, especially let me thank Christoph Ganser and Hirokazu Kato for messages. i want to briedly report for other newbies who may have the same problem. o Linux kernel: 2.4.18-10 Red Hat Linux release 7.3 (Valhalla) default version 2.4.18-3 did not work. presumably due to kernel driver ieee1394 minor change. so update to 2.4.18-10 via RPM: kernel-2.4.18-10 kernel-source-2.4.18-10 o camera >using the gscanbus application i saw the i-bot camera always trying to >be node 0 on the ieee1394 bus. >simply reconnecting the camera helps (without unloading the kernel >modules). changing the firewire port helps to. This helps when you still see the same message 'node 0 is not a camera', etc. after you did all things properly. o other info (in my case) ARToolkit: 2.64 libdc1394: 0.8.3 libraw1394: 0.9.0 Configure: 3: Digital Video Camera through IEEE 1394 (VGA NONCOMPRESSED Image Format) Do you use a DragonFly as the default camera? (y or n) -> n simpleTest with 'vconf="-debug";' to see if you get camera parameters best wishes, YF |
