Dear Matthew, I have combined in the past a 3ds parser with ARToolkit and it worked really well. Although it was a bit slower than OpenVRML, it provided much better realism in the augmented scene. Hi Matthew, we developed a module for OpenSceneGraph called osgART (http://www.artoolworks.com/community/osgart/) at the HIT Lab NZ. We have other modules for most of the other engines in the cue or ready in-house. Bottom line of all of this is that the choice for a 3D engine really depends on the problem you want to solve. Cheers, Hartmut Leach, Matthew wrote: > > Hello all, > > What 3D engines are people using at the moment? Dear Matthew, for our student projects we use Panda3D with ARToolkit. Both connect via VRPN and a module called ARTrack which we developed to connect VRPN and ARToolkit. best wishes, Steffi Leach, Matthew schrieb: > Hello all, > > > > What 3D engines are people using at the moment? As Hartmut already mentioned, the choice of a 3D engine is highly problem specific - no engine solves all the problems. I suggest putting the main focus on the graphical problems you want to solve. Basically any good 3D engine will allow you to specify model transformation and camera specification using matrices so a simple ARToolKit integration is trivial and should take less than an hour if you know the 3D engine well. If you want do a clean design you should consider the many paper that were published about integrating tracking solutions into 3D engines. Here are some categories you might want to consider: - Open source vs. closed source - Supported platforms - OpenGL vs. proprietary (DirectX) - Scripting support - Shader support - Active community - Model loaders/exporters bye, Daniel |
