To promote the virtual interface technology, Telecom Italia sponsored the development of a virtual environment representing the Arsenale, a historic naval shipyard in the city of Venice. The focus of the CEDeS Lab's simulation of the Arsenale is the Squadratori, currently under reconstruction. The simulation also features a proposal for a new bridge designed by Professor Augusto Burelli of IUAV, the architecture school in Venice.

The Arsenale was the largest industrial complex in Europe in the 15th century, capable of constructing and storing parts for over a hundred naval galleys. The Arsenale complex was able to build one ship per day, and in 1436 a Spanish visitor to the Arsenal witnessed the completion of ten fully armed galleys in six hours.
