Subject: Welcome
Welcome to the Virtual Environments class for this quarter! I'm pleased to have you with us. This message is the first of many you will receive during the quarter. I will use email frequently to keep you up to date on what is happening in the class.
First, to make sure our I have your correct email please respond to me when you receive this.
Second. This morning I created new user accounts for all of you on the SGI Indy's. Once you respond to this email I will send back to you your user name and temporary password. Please make sure you change your password as soon as you login.
There are a couple of things to be aware of when you first login to the SGI's. - Each workstation has a desktop file that governs how the desktop looks when you log in. This file has been created for all of you on the machine "tigger" and "piglet". The first time you log in to "eeyore" you will be asked if you want to creat a new desktop file or use one from tigger or piglet. Select the option, "Copy desktop from another machine" and select "tigger". This will set up "eeyore" to look like "tigger".
- When you log in you will sometimes get a error message. Just click "OK" and ignore these.
- In each of your home directories I have created a linked directory to the Lightscape tutorial files. This will make it easy for you to find.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to email me, or call. My office number is (425) 649-3341. Just leave a message if I'm not there.
Again, welcome to the class and we'll see you Thursday.
