2010-02-23PhD Scholarships available at HITLab AU

The Human Interface Technology Laboratory Australia (HITLab AU) is pleased to announce that applications are now open for 6 fully funded PhD scholarships $30,000 tax-free per annum within the lab starting in 2010.

HITLab AU is a partner of the world-leading HITLab US based at the University of Washington in Seattle, in conjunction with the HITLab NZ at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, and shares its goals of developing revolutionary interfaces that transform how people interact with computers and improve the human experience.

Application deadline is March 17th 2010.

The topics of these projects include:

  • Interactive Surface User Interfaces
  • Tangible User interfaces
  • Hybrid AR Tracking
  • Mixed Reality for Digital Museums
  • Digital Physical Gaming

We are looking for exceptionally well-qualified, motivated candidates who want to be part of the first phase of our development into a leading international research laboratory in interface technology research.

Our sister lab in New Zealand is about to hold its annual conference, entitled "From the Lab to the Living Room: Design for Life", April 11th and 12th. Speakers include Doug Trumbull, Chris Stapleton, and Jim Thomas.

Dr. Mark Billinghurst, director of the HITLab New Zealand, has been recognized as a world class New Zealander. Way to go Mark!

2005-12-20HITLab To Administer RVAC

The National Visualization and Analytics Center has established several Regional Visualization and Analytics Centers (RVACs) to assist the Department of Homeland Security to develop visual analytics tools. As seen on the NVAC web site, the UW received one of five coveted RVAC awards with the HIT Lab as principal institution.
